Chimney Linings

Clay Tile Lining Replacement | Stainless Steel Lining
Ahrens Poured-in-Place Lining
Aluminum Linings | Supaflu Cast-in-Place Lining

Clay Tile Lining Replacement - sometimes the clay tile lining at  either the top or the base of the chimney flue, or both, becomes deteriorated.  If the remaining clay tile lining in the chimney is in good condition, just the deteriorated sections can be replaced.

Stainless Steel Chimney Linings - chimney flues can be relined for fireplaces and inserts vented into fireplaces.  Woodstove flues and furnace flues can be relined from top to base using a U.L. Listed Flexible or Rigid stainless steel chimney liner and stainless steel components.

Ahrens Poured-in-Place Chimney Lining is a two-liner system.  Ahrens lining system is listed for use with all fuels.  The Ahrens liner is normally installed in one continuous pour, which means there are no seams or joints to leak or separate.  The continuous poured liner provides increased strength to any masonry chimney.  The liner offers an interlock-
ing bond to existing masonry by filling any deteriorated mortar joints, cracks, or crevices.

The Ahrens system incorporates a 2-LINER SYSTEM:  the Ahrens mix is

a dual-purpose process, providing an insulated flue to keep inside flue temperatures higher (reducing condensation) while reducing heat transfer to the outside of the chimney.  The first liner is installed when a correctly-sized steel form (bell) is lowered down the chimney with a winch.  The first liner material is poured down the chimney to cover the bell.  When winching begins, the mix is horizontally compacted into the chimney walls by the wedging effect and vibration of the bell.  The first liner mix forms around each brick and fills deteriorated mortar joints.  This process is continued as the bell is winched up the chimney to create a continuous liner that is properly sized, insulated and that strengthens the existing chimney.

Ahrens' second liner seals and protects the first liner.  It cures to a hard finish that is resistant to acids and moisture.  Normal cleaning and maintenance will not damage it.  The second liner

will be applied with a spray system or by pouring the material on top of a foam applicator that is lowered down the flue.  The second liner is absorbed into the surface of the first liner and coats the entire flue surface.

Aluminum Chimney Linings - chimney flues for gas furnace systems can be relined from top to base using flexible aluminum chimney lining and components.  Aluminum liners should NOT be used for venting wood, coal or oil appliances.

Supaflu Cast-in-Place Chimney Lining - a Supaflu liner is suitable for venting all heating fuels.  An inflatable rubber form, called a supaform, is lowered into the cleaned chimney flue.  It is sized to the heating appliance(s) to be vented into the flue and to the available flue cavity.  If the flue is tile lined, the tiles may have to be removed to maintain proper flue size.  The supaform is inflated to the proper flue size and centered within the flue cavity by using spacers.  The special Supaflu formula is then pumped into the chimney from the top, between the outside of the supaform and the inside of the chimney.

supaflu

When the Supaflu is set, usually the next day, the former is deflated and with-
drawn.  The Supaflu liner becomes an integral part of the masonry chimney and reinforces the brick joints; it fills cracks, voids, and separa-
tions within the chimney.  The newly installed Supaflu liner extends from the base to the top of the chimney flue.
